The FabYOUlous Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern includes:

- Left-handed and right-handed versions of the instructions, so there is no need to adapt the pattern before you start crocheting.

This is an easy level crochet pattern. It is suitable for those who have practiced the basics of crochet and are ready for their next project (advanced beginner). The techniques involved are US single crochet (UK double crochet), US double crochet (UK treble) bobble stitch, changing colour, increases, decreases, working in rows and working in rounds.
The finished wall hanging is approximately 30 cm (nearly 12 inches) in diameter.
That one awesome friend
As an introvert, my circle of friends has always been small. I like to think that I focus on quality, not quantity. I’ve always been happy with my own company so, when I was younger and more self-conscious, I didn’t feel the need to go searching for other individuals who shared similar interests to myself. As I grew older and had kids, I then realised the importance of community. I then surrounded myself with a wonderful group of friends, but that is a story for another time.
This story is about how I met my dearest and closest friend, who I have had the pleasure of knowing for nearly twenty years. We laugh about how our friendship began. She invited herself to an event I was attending because she thought I wanted her to come along, and the awkward, younger, self-conscious me didn’t know how to tell her that I really wanted to go just by myself and was just talking about the event to pass the time.
Little did I know that this was to be one of the best things that could happen to me, as I have been blessed to call her a friend ever since. So, when my friend’s birthday was approaching, I knew I wanted to make something for her that showed her just how amazing she was.
Everyone needs a touch of fabulous in their lives
I wanted the gift to be a wall-hanging to go in her craft space, and it needed to capture the awesomeness that is my friend. So, I started sketching some designs, and playing around with words. I knew I wanted to create another circle wreath. That meant the space for words was limited so the message needed to be tight and sharp. Finally it came to me on the walk home from the school run – she was fabYOUlous!
Finally, I needed to choose the colour palette. I went with rich autumnal colours to complement her wardrobe style and to reflect her favourite time of year. It was very straight-forward to make, the centre-piece works up quickly and I love how it is a low-sew project. The crochet piece is made all in one go, The only sewing part is when you attach the decorative balls to the ruffle. I liked it so much that I then had to make one for myself as well.
The gift was a success; my friend was delighted by it. It looks lovely in her craft room and I am thrilled with how it turned out. So, I’ve turned it into a crochet pattern so that you can also make it for the special friend in your life (or maybe just for yourself). I hope you have as much fun making it as I did designing it.
