Happy Being Me Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern

Celebrate love and self-acceptance with this easy-to-make decorative wall hanging, that serves as a gentle reminder that we are all beautiful one-of-a-kind souls. Choose your own favourite colours to make a gorgeous piece of art that is as unique, and as special, as you are.

The Happy Being Me Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern includes:

  • Easy to follow instructions using standard US crochet terms and easy to follow instructions using standard UK crochet terms, so you can enjoy the pattern no matter what crochet language you use.
  • Left-handed and right-handed versions of the instructions, so there is no need to adapt the pattern before you start crocheting.
  • Clear photos and extra guidance where needed, to help you with the little details and guide you to success.
  • A bonus step-by-step photo tutorial on how to block your crochet project to give it a professional looking finish.

This is an easy level crochet pattern. It is suitable for those who have practiced the basics of crochet and are ready for their next project. The techniques involved are US single crochet (UK double crochet), bobble stitch, and working in rows.

The finished wall hanging is approximately 11.5 inches wide by 15.5 inches long (29 cm wide by 39.5 cm long), excluding the fringe.

I was both amazed and overcome with delight when the midwife placed my second daughter in my exhausted arms at six in the morning after a very, very long and sleepless night. Apart from being the brightest shade of red I had ever seen, she both managed to look the exactly same as my first born yet nothing at all like my first born. Admittedly, I hadn’t been around many babies prior to having my daughters, however I had done biology at school and knew about combining a little bit of mum with a little bit of dad and voila! A baby human. So in my naivety (and boy was I naïve about so many things in motherhood) I assumed that because my youngest was made with the same ingredients that her sister was made with, that my experience with the second would be the same as with my first.

I was wrong! They slept differently, they ate differently, they cried differently and they played differently. They were both incredibly determined to show me how unique and separate from each other they actually were.

Fast forward a few years and they still amaze me with their wonderful, unique personalities and how they can be as different as chalk and cheese in some regards, and virtually identical in others.  One area they did agree on was that they both loved the last wall hanging I made for them. So much that they then showed me the rest of their bedroom wall and asked for it to be filled, so I promptly started planning the next decoration for them.

My youngest has always declared rainbow as her favourite colour, her soul is too full of joy and freedom to be tied down with the trivialities of only having one favourite colour. My eldest is starting to get to the age where she is more aware of her peers and what they all have in common (or not) and, more importantly, how she fits in with her peer group. I wanted to combine the two ideas into one wall hanging crochet pattern to create a gentle reminder that they are unique, and special, just as they are.

I started playing with ideas for words and colours before I settled on the current design. It is a quick-to-make, low-sew project, so the girls were quickly able to get their wall-hangings displayed in their rooms. The crochet piece is made all in one go; the only sewing involved is attaching the finished piece to the wooden rod. Both my daughters love their new room decoration, and gave their approval to turn it into a crochet pattern. So, now you can also make it for the special child in your life (or yourself).
