The Magic of Winter

When I started thinking about designing a new crochet pattern for the holiday season, I knew that I wanted to create something that was more versatile than just a Christmas wall hanging. I wanted something that could be enjoyed throughout all the winter months, not just Christmas week.

It’s a rare sight in the UK, however one of my favourite things about winter is when we get snow, especially snow falling at night. I love waking up early and seeing the fresh snow on the ground; shining bright against the dark night sky. It’s so peaceful and serene, and it always makes me feel happy and calm. So I decided to design a wall hanging that captures the quiet beauty of nighttime snow.

I still wanted a nod to Christmas in the design, and so I chose to make the wall hanging round, like a Christmas wreath. There is something special about the traditional round shape of Christmas wreaths, and I thought it would be perfect for a winter wall hanging.

I used bobble stitch to make sure that the words were clear to read and created a beautiful ruffle around the edge to pull it all together. The texture that the bobble stitches and ruffle create together is something that I just adore. I chose Stylecraft yarn in White and French Navy to capture that falling snow at night feeling.

I love the way that the finished product turned out. The wall hanging is in our dining room for now; which is the heart of our home. It’s the perfect way to add a touch of winter magic to the home. A gentle reminder that although it might be dark and wintery outside, we can still find beauty if we stop and look.
